Nookies

Let me tell you about a place that I love. Whether you're craving some hearty eggs and bacon, or a juicy burger covered in cheese and a great sauce. Something as simple as a grilled cheese sandwich to an omelet stuffed with all sorts of delicious bits. It's "Nookies" and you need to experience it.

There are a four locations (that I know of), slightly varying in menus, in the city. I am focusing on the one in Edgewater since I spend so much time there and have called it my home for a while. Quaintly it sits on the corner of Bryn Mawr and Winthrop, and features an outdoor patio for warmer temperatures.

I truly cannot think of anything about Nookies that I dislike. The service through my frequent visits (with family, friends, boyfriend) has always been fantastic. The food exceptional, and the prices reasonable. I really want you to experience it, too. Allow me to highlight a few favorites from the breakfast menu:

Two over-medium eggs, a side of bacon and fruit. You can pick your style of eggs, your meat (if you so choose) and fruit, toast, or potatoes.

The spinach, bacon, and cheddar omelet (Enjoyed greatly by Daniel, drooled over by me)

My newest "Nookies" favorite. The "Green Goddess" skillet. This is vegetarian-friendly. It's two eggs, potatoes, Swiss chard, Asparagus, broccoli, green onion, topped with Swiss cheese and basil pesto poured over two eggs, your style choice.

If you want to satisfy both sides of your stomach, go for the "Sweet and savory": Two eggs, any style, your choice of pancakes or french toast, and a side of bacon, ham, sausage or hash browns.

Nookies doesn't just have a fabulous breakfast menu. In fact, bring anyone here and they will surely find something they can enjoy. Soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and wraps. There are plenty of options for vegetarians, but also plenty for meat-lovers. My personal favorite on the lunch/dinner menu: The three-cheese toaster.

When it comes to drinks, Nookies again gets a 10 out of 10 score from me. Their cocktail options are as wide as their food menu. I have only tried my favorite drink here--the Bloody Mary. It was very good. Garnished with the appropriate vegetables and just the right amount of spicy.

If you're not feeling a cocktail, try the freshly-squeezed orange juice. It truly is freshly-squeezed. Seriously, fresh out of the orange.

Would you bring your girls here?

Yes. A great selection is sure to satisfy the mouths of my friends with diverse tastes.

Should you bring someone here on a date?

Definitely! Share small plates for dinner on a chilly autumn evening, and if you had fun with him/her the night before, invite them back for breakfast the next morning!

Can I bring my boss or colleagues for a happy hour?

I probably wouldn't. Not that you couldn't. To me, Nookies is a sipping-bloody-marys on a Sunday, relaxing, get-pancakes-when-you-drank-last night, feed-your-face kind of a place.

Is this a family friendly place?

It sure is. Your Dad will love the burger selections, and your Mom will be happy with the attentive service and the sandwich temperature. But hey, I'm talking about my parents here.
